  • Edna’s Fave Raves

    Tuesday 7, April, 2015
EDNA IN THE DESERT Can a modern teen live without her smart phone, WiFi or anything else she likes? Edna will find out. “EDNA IN THE DESERT is the most hilarious and realistic Young Adult book that I have read in a VERY LONG TIME…the precocious but incredibly lovable Edna really struck a chord with me…I couldn’t put it down!“ –writer Ingrid Hall “One of the best coming-of-age books I have ever read…Edna is a rich, technology-obsessed, snarky Anne of Green Gables.” –Loving the Language of Literacy review “Edna is quirky, snarky, selfish, melodramatic and… kind. She’s like an anti-Holden Caulfield, a young girl who accidentally does the right...
  • “Opportunity for Intriguing Discussion”

    Sunday 8, February, 2015
“I feel there is ample opportunity here for some meaty and intriguing discussions between mothers and their daughters, and teachers and their students.” “Edna arrives into this space as the queen of drama queens. She leaves with appreciation, understanding, and compassion.” Story Circle’s insightful review of Edna In The Desert, written by Judy M. Miller, 2/3/15. Attention: *Spoilers ahead* Precocious 13-year-old Edna Miller has a lot to live up to. She is the daughter of a successful Hollywood film director who easily manipulates actors, studio execs, and technicians, and a ‘perfect’ etiquette-blogging mother, who is a sought-after public speaker for the rich...
  • “I Absolutely Loved Edna in the Desert”

    Thursday 20, November, 2014
“I absolutely loved Edna in the Desert and have given it 4 out of 4 stars for its realistic characters, solid writing, and moving storyline.”   Official OnlineBookClub.org review of EDNA IN THE DESERT by Maddy Lederman. Strong-willed and sarcastic, thirteen-year-old Edna sows turmoil at home, at extra-curricular activities, and especially at school. When her latest misconduct ends in physical assault, Edna’s parents decide to send her away from the affluence of Beverly Hills to her grandparents’ sparse cabin in the middle of the desert. For Edna, this means spending an entire summer without television, Internet, or cellular phone service, all while contending with her...
  • “A Great, Heart-warming Story”

    Sunday 16, November, 2014
Loving the Language of Literacy recommends EDNA IN THE DESERT!   “A great, heart-warming story about a 13 year old girl who begrudgingly has to go to the desert for the summer to live with her grandparents…She’s kind of on probation from being a bad kid in Beverly Hills, so it’s a complete environment change…and lots of chaos ensues!”     Posted on Youtube 10/14/14 Loving’s original review of Edna In The Desert here ....

  • EDNA IN THE DESERT Was a Hit.

    Wednesday 9, July, 2014
My review: “Edna In The Desert” certainly was a hit. I was able to relate to the main character, not because I was like her, but because I have been graced with children like her in my life. That whole ‘chip on the shoulder – smart aleck’ attitude grows tiresome very quickly but there is always a reason behind it and it’s usually not what you’d expect. Once the layers of Edna are peeled away and her heart is revealed, you see a glistening of hope there. She comes a long way in the book and I’d like to read...
  • An Incredible Story…Close to My Heart

    Sunday 1, June, 2014
My Review: Edna in the Desert is an incredible story about an unruly teenager named Edna who discovers more than she could have ever imagined during her summer expulsion to the desert. After being a disciplinary nightmare, 13-year-old Edna finds herself in the middle of nowhere sentenced to spend the entire summer with her grandparents. Edna has no idea how she will survive, but quickly discovers that her teenage dramatics have no effect on Grandma Mary. She attempts to runaway and “die” in the barren desert, but is rescued by a boy named Johnny. Ultimately, this encounter with Johnny changes everything...

  • A Great, Little Tale About Growing Up

“I highly recommend this book for teens. It’s a great little tale about growing up and learning how to be a better you.” Review of EDNA IN THE DESERT by Paige Boggs, Electively Paige. About the Book:  Edna is a precocious troublemaker wreaking havoc at her Beverly Hills school. Her therapist advocates medication, but her parents come up with an alternative cure: Edna will spend the summer in the desert with her grandparents.
